School Pride

Yes I said it, school pride. What kind of student would I be if I didn't show my school radio station, WHSN some love?? If you listen to our station (89.3) then you have probably already heard about this but here it is again. WHSN is putting on an acoustic showcase and all proceeds are going towards the Nation MS Society, Maine Chapter. They got some pretty good bands to play at this thing! Sam and Yuri, Wolves Among Sleep, A Goodnight Sound Rush, The Bay State, and The Goodnight Process. Tickets are $10.00 at the door and the show is happening at the Historic Bangor Opera House in downtown Bangor April 11th. Be there or be...not there.

Favorites

As much as no one cares about my opinion or what my favorites are I have decided to do a top ten albums list of my favorite artists just because I have always wanted to do a top ten....like Letterman, but cooler.
1o. Viva La Bands- Various Artists-Bam Margera's Favs put into one CD.

9. Burning Valhalla- Send in the Valkyries- A disbanded Bangor Band, the recordings weren't so great but I really liked their music.

8. NSYNC-No Strings Attached-Ah sixth grade crushes....

7. The Used-Self-Titled Album- Classic Bert

6. Radiation Year- Glamour for the Grotesque-Another local band that called it quits, their original music was way better than their new stuff anyway.
(No pictures of the album were available.)

5. Queen of the Damned Movie Soundtrack-Various Artists-One of the best movies based on one of the best book series ever. Period.

4. Nirvana-The Best of the Box-I loves me some 90's Grunge

3. My Chemical Romance- Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge-Just because the title is bitchin'

2. The Lonely Island- Incredibad- Yes...it IS hilarious...

1. This is a tie between HIM-Love Metal and HIM-Venus Doom because both albums are amazing. HIM=Finnish Rock Gods.

There you have it, my kind of in order top ten albums. At the moment I am late in discovering the strange child-like band of hardcore crazies called Bring Me the Horizon. Vampires I say.

Ping Pong and Pool

No my post has nothing to do with ping pong or pool it is just what I am observing from my current position in the Furman Center a lovely place full of activity and other merriment. I am excited for one band in particular to be done writing their new album and to go on tour!! H.I.M is currently in the studio between Helsinki, Finland and L.A recording their new album which as they describe it is more punk than their last two albums. They are going back a few CDs to Love Metal, the CD that came out when I was first introduced to the band and is therefore my favorite. Lead singer Ville Valo describes their new sound as having a, "happy, chill vibe." No release date has been set.

Prostitutes are Boring

The reason I take this shot at prostitutes is because I just had to write a persuation speech about legalizing prostitution and there is way too much information on the subject. Too many doctors and economists and professors spent too many hours doing tests and research on the subject. Anyway back to music, Sparks the Rescue, The Minus Scale, and Arms Against the Sea will be playing at The Big Easy on Sunday April 20th at 8pm. Also concerning The Minus Scale they are playing a show happening before The Big Easy show on April 5th at The Dover Brickhouse in New Hampshire with Too Late the Hero, Me As Time, Lannen Fall, and The Cambiata. If you are in the area you should definitely check that out. Happy Prostituting :).

Where It's At

There seems to be a lot of buzzing around Orono these days. The Ultra Lounge looks like it is going to be a busy place in the next couple of weeks. They have Spose with Luch & Eliza, The Danks, Mr. Harpy, and Stiky-1 on Friday March 27th. Also coming to the 103 is something I'm not quite clear on, Ticketmaster is telling me there is a Battle of the Bands to kickoff the Music as a Weapon tour featuring Disturbed and Killswitch Engage. It does not specify if Disturbed and Killswitch will be actually playing at this show or if it is just a local Battle of the Bands to jump start their show coming later in the month. Check out Ticketmaster or the 103 Myspace page.

Quick Update

It has been a while do much has happened. Motley Crue played their show at the Cumberland County Civic Center last wednesday night and to all of those that got to attend..I am jealous. On March 27 The Brew will be coming to the Unity Center for the Arts. Also, Joanna Burns will be at Husson University tomorrow night at 8:00 in the Furman Center so don't miss that it's free!!
